I was in Prince George for a short work trip, and I didn’t expect much when it came to food. The first couple of meals I had were kind of bland, and I started thinking the only choices were fast food or hotel dining. But one of my coworkers who’s from PG told me I just had to look beyond the obvious spots. He was right. We went to this quirky little place for brunch one morning — not even on Google Maps when I searched earlier, but it had the best eggs benny I’ve had in a while, with homemade hollandaise and perfectly crispy hashbrowns. From there, I got more curious and started checking out local places more intentionally. What really helped me get a feel for what’s around was browsing through Restaurants in Prince George, BC. It’s simple but actually useful — you get a broader list of spots, and it’s way easier to stumble onto something new than just relying on what comes up first in a search. I ended up finding a small Japanese spot through that page — it had amazing ramen and was surprisingly cozy inside. It’s definitely worth taking the time to explore a little, especially if you’re there longer than planned. Some of the best meals I had were at places you’d totally miss if you didn’t know to look.

Funny how the unexpected stuff ends up staying with you longer than anything you tried to plan. One delay, one change of direction — and suddenly you’ve got a story you wouldn’t trade, even if it threw off your original schedule.
